Taxes on Mobile Phone Cards Restored by Supreme Court
Pakistan Top Court on Wednesday orders the restoration of all suspended taxes on Prepaid mobile cards. The “Mobile Card Taxes Case” was heard by a three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa. They debated whether the Supreme Court can hear the case regarding taxes under the Article 184-3 of the constitution. So they higher court issues a short statement that they can’t hear the case regarding taxes.
Therefore, the court restores all previous taxes by dismissing the previous judgment of June 2018. Now customers can get Rs. 75 on Rs. 100 card. However, the court restraint themselves from intervening in the matter of public revenue and taxes. So the court is not going to look into the recovery of revenues because of not in their domain while answering to Pakistan Telecommunication Authority.
Back in June 2018, the apex court led by Chief Justice Saqib Nisar suspended all the taxes. While they were hearing a case in the public interest.
In proceedings, the PTA counsel informed the apex court that Rs 90 Billion taxes were not collected due to suspension of taxes.
