Social media is one of the biggest platforms for the people to share its opinion and connecting the people around the world. Apple CEO Tim Cook has a different opinion about the social media and advertising companies. Most of the users around the world always criticize the social media because it creates controversies on a large scale. Let’s say ongoing controversy about Russian interference in the 2016 US election is one of the examples.
According to the report, Tim Cook, in an interview with Lester Holt on NBC Nightly News expressed his opinion about the all social media platforms, advertisements targeting groups and individuals is not said to be a big issue, but overall looking to the nature of all social media sources are responsible for the misleading and wrong information and interpretation about an issue that is too dangerous. The CEO said:
“I don’t believe the big issue are ads from foreign governments. I believe that’s like .1 percent of the issue. The bigger issue is that some of these tools are used to divide people, to manipulate people, to get fake news to people in broad numbers so as to influence their thinking. This to me is the No. 1 through 10 issue.”
In a conference on the second day of Capitol Hill testimony the members of Google, Facebook, and Twitter take some aggressive decisions against the individual, group or any party creating violence in the social media. Social media tech giant show intentions about its products and they want to keep them free of bad actors and foreign governments. If you keep noticing, the news and rumors spread over the three major social media platform impact the initially reported news having more than 10 times.
Cook says the all the social media companies are not same, all the tech companies are not same, and all the advertising companies are not working same in Silicon valley. They have their own business values, different principles, different models, they should have learned from the past and they already have learned along the way a lot.
